Beauty | Going J-idol look with Novelina

I have visited this FREE Hair Color application from Novelina at the 3rd level of Cash and Carry, Makati.

I'm excited and nervous to try this Novelina Zeelkee Cream Hair Color with Keratin. It's formulated in Japan - so it's safe. They have handful of colors to chose from; Natural Black, Chestnut Brown, Golden Brown and Natural Brown. If you prefer add wow factor, Burgundy and Crimson Red. I've picked Chestnut Brown to complement my warm skin tone and for personal taste, it's close to auburn - red.

A little back story, I grew up keeping my hair with its natural color because I'm afraid of hair coloring products that will make your hair dry. There are times I want to change my look without applying direct color on my hair. I've invested on daily wigs but the longer I use, it feels heavy and it felt unreal on the photos. I have to keep a mental note to wash the wigs and comb it often that ate my time for my passion projects. I need to do something.

An invitation of free hair color came by and I asked myself why not I take the chance of having my hair colored? If I'm starting to be lazy to use my daily wigs and growing tired with my natural hair color.

Daisy, the person assisted me, introduced me with the product. The product have a brush and tube liquid mixture. She brushes the mixture evenly on my hair root to tips and by layer until the small bowl is empty. (PS. If you have longer hair and want to achieve vibrant color, you may opt to add more of the same color. It costs less than 50 pesos.)

To let the color mixture stick to your hair, you need to keep it at least an hour. You can go browse on your phone or read e-book while waiting. The estimate price for this DIY Hair color with keratin is around 300 pesos. It's affordable.

Sharing with you the before and after (days of) application:

My natural black hair are growing out my previous hair color from my last salon visit. This leaves the Chestnut Brown color stays at the mid to tip of my hair. I'm happy with my result - slight ombre similar to few J-idol (Japanese idol) girl group. It looks gorgeous with flash and under the sun.

For better result, if you're blessed with lighter hair color or you recently have your hair bleached. When you DIY or visit their booth, the color will be noticeable. If you're afraid of getting your hair dry from using the product. They have Novelina Hair and Scalp - Keratin Treatment, to add shine and smoothness.

Catch Novelina mini booth on the following malls below:

June 1 - 30, 2019 --- Cash and Carry Mall, 3rd Level (near food court area)

Fashion | Get your summer favorites from Sun, Sand, and Squad collection

It's the season for the weekend getaways and embrace the vitamin sea. You might have missing items to add in your ootd. Do not worry because Shangri-La Plaza got you covered with their stylish summer pieces. Their Summer Fashion Show 2019 titled Sun, Sand, and Squad brought to you their adored prints, hues of blue and sailor pieces that would fit in your getaway trips.

Back by popular demand, sailor stripes and chic anchor prints populate resort dressing. Get these seafaring looks from adorable sailor-inspired outfits for kids, to collegiate, sporty-luxe grown-up versions.

From tropical and botanical, to floral and geometric, fashion still has a preoccupation for prints. Wear them all over, madly and merrily. Wear art on your sleeve – literally – and take on the modern, updated tie-dye. These aren’t just for hippies anymore.

Nothing spells summer better than pops of color. Try the yellow-white-gray-black color combination creatively inspired by a sea gull on a rocky shore to inject more oceanic vibes. Or dive right in with cool blue, aquamarine, and turquoise, green sea anemone, and fiery coral shades of a world under the sea.

The color story continues with soft, pale pastels for sweet-toothed toddlers, or standout neon colors for the bold and beautiful. Stay fresh with the season’s coolest shade, sage green, especially when paired with crisp whites and neutrals.

Stock up on graphic tees and wear them with everything, from skirts to lounge bottoms, and under strappy dresses. Boiler suits have been elevated from utilitarian protective garment to stylish and functional summer piece.

Denim is forever a style staple with the runways and city streets seeing a millennial revival of the classic blue jeans of the 80’s and 90’s, and the girls rocking sexy denim-and swimsuit combinations.

Higher temperatures mean showing more skin. Go Kim K-esque by wearing spandex as outerwear, or don the sartorial pick of summer, shorts, which have morphed into ultra shorts this season – higher on the gams and in Crayola colors, to turn a few heads at the beach and on the streets.

Keep professionally cool and chic in tailored modern suits in ocean hues, and channel that inner bohemian with crafty, artisanal handiwork on maxi dresses for a relaxing day off. Sophisticated summer evenings call for couture in blue hues with dramatic big bows, fringes and ruffles.

Shop all these hot #SunSandSquad trends from the show at Shangri-La Plaza to #FeelTheShangVibe this summer! For kids and teens (5:00PM), browse and buy must-have pieces at Ever New, Gap, Gingersnaps, Great Kids, Joe Fresh, JustG, Mango, Mothercare, Old Navy, Onitsuka Tiger, Periwinkle, Plains and Prints, Rustan’s Department Store, Sky Castle, Stradivarius, Superdry, The Original Penguin, and Unarosa.

Passion Project | Pinoy barista champion builds a coffee school for our kababayans

A business owner and the 2019 Philippine National Barista Champion holder, Michael Harris Lim, who is the first Filipino to move in the Semi-finals of the World Barista Championship in Boston, USA. He brought his advocacies with him and heard by the international stage, he continues to carry out his life’s work of creating a fully-sustainable coffee economy and takes another step towards realizing this vision—by officially opening the Institute for Coffee Excellence.

He opens this institute with his commitment to developing a variety of educational initiatives that focuses on instilling positive values that will help the learners grow and excel as coffee professionals.

Since he first ventured in the coffee business in 2001, he has been committed in providing solutions to elevate the quality of local crops and equip the Filipino farmers with tools and knowledge to help them keep up with the evolving industry. But through the competitions, Harris was able to see the industry in the perspective of a barista which made him realize that they also needed training in delivering the best coffee experience. As he stated, “This journey has inspired me to create a space to nurture the baristas and our Filipino coffee farmers.” Thus, he built the Institute for Coffee Excellence to have its thrust work at both ends of the spectrum: for farmers and baristas.

Harris envisions the institute as an instrument in fostering a community that works together for total sustainability to achieve the ultimate goal of having an increasingly steady food and coffee security for the Philippines and for the future generations to come. “The transformation of a community begins with education. In the case of our coffee community, I believe we would have to start by empowering our farmers and baristas with the knowledge, values and passion to work towards a beautiful coffee future,” he shares.

Prior to his participation in the national and world competitions, Harris makes vigorous effort in extending a helping hand to the thriving coffee industry as a social entrepreneur. While he actively supports coffee-producing communities in Benguet through the platforms he built such as the Foundation for Sustainable Coffee Excellence (FSCE) and The Giving Café, his eagerness to create greater initiatives that will benefit the local industry never ceased.

Driving his inspiration from the members of the coffee community, he's also aiming to make the Foundation for Sustainable Coffee Excellence as the country’s National Body licensed by World Coffee Events to hold the next competitions in 2020.
